We compared Adriene Caldwell's author brand and book presence, line by line, with the most successful self-published memoir of overcoming childhood abuse. David Goggins published Can't Hurt Me through Lioncrest, his own author-owned imprint, and turned it into a 7-million-copy bestseller. Same publishing route as Adriene — very different result.
Brooks Craft scores twelve areas that decide whether a reader finds, trusts and buys a self-published book. Each is rated from what is live today on Google, Amazon, social media and print retail.
Scores are Brooks Craft Publishing's assessment. Every figure on this page comes from live pages captured on November 7, 2026.
Each pair was captured the same day, at the same size. Adriene is on the left, David Goggins on the right.
Goggins's name opens a full Knowledge Panel with his books, a video, Instagram and a Wikipedia biography. Adriene's name returns plain links — Google does not yet recognise her as an author.

Unbroken already has a Google Books panel. Can't Hurt Me adds ratings from Goodreads (4.3/5) and Barnes & Noble (5/5), "Read now" buttons for Kindle and Barnes & Noble, and a library search.

davidgoggins.com opens on his latest book with "About the book" and "About David" buttons, and its menu covers Books, Press, Achievements and Shop. Adriene's site has the right pages but only one place to buy.

Both use the same Amazon template — the difference is proof. Goggins's store shows 106,913 ratings on his flagship book and 17 titles including translations.

Both books are self-published, so both authors control the same tools on Amazon. Goggins uses every one of them.
Can't Hurt Me opens with "New York Times Best Seller" and "Over 7 million copies sold", and offers Kindle, Audiobook, Hardcover and Paperback plus 8 videos. Unbroken opens with a strong story hook but no proof.

Neither page uses an A+ module — but Goggins doesn't need one: below his description sit 106,913 ratings, 86% five-star, and an AI summary that calls the book "life-changing". Unbroken has no A+ Content and only a text block of reviews, so the space that should sell the book is empty.

Both are self-published memoirs about surviving an abusive childhood. Can't Hurt Me ranks in the top 31 of three categories; Unbroken's lead category is Schizophrenia, a shelf memoir readers don't browse.

The Editorial Reviews block on the Kindle page is where trade reviews and endorsements live. Goggins's carries full quotes from Joe Rogan, Andrew Huberman, Marcus Luttrell, Admiral Eric Olson and Kirkus. Adriene's has six one-line snippets and an empty "About the Author".

| Amazon factor | Unbroken | Can't Hurt Me | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Publishing route | Self-published (Luminare Press) | Self-published (Lioncrest, author-owned) | Same route |
| Best Sellers Rank | #759,577 | #2,599 | Critical |
| Ratings | 4.3★ · 98 | 4.8★ · 106,913 | Critical |
| Editorial Reviews | 6 one-line snippets | 8 full endorsements + Kirkus | High |
| Formats | Kindle, paperback, hardcover | Kindle, paperback, hardcover, Audible | High |
| Listing media | 2 images, no video | 8 videos + Audible sample | Medium |
Both books are printed on demand and reach retailers through print-on-demand distribution. Barnes & Noble is the clearest public view of how well that pipeline is working.
Adriene's print-on-demand setup is working: both books are live at Barnes & Noble in three formats, in stock and orderable in stores. The difference is demand — Can't Hurt Me has 42 B&N reviews to Unbroken's one, and Unbroken's hardcover costs more than Goggins's.

| Print & distribution | Unbroken | Can't Hurt Me |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon print (KDP / POD) | Paperback, hardcover | Paperback, hardcover |
| Barnes & Noble | In stock; 1 review | In stock; 42 reviews |
| Bookstore & library wholesale (Ingram) | Not confirmed | Yes — stocked in stores and libraries |

Goggins proved a self-published memoir can outsell most traditional ones. This is the same playbook, sized for Adriene.
Brooks Craft Publishing will build the visibility Unbroken needs to compete with the most successful self-published memoirs.
Social media & author profile
Self-published authors sell through their own audience. Goggins built one of the largest author audiences online; Adriene's is just starting.
Social media presence (Instagram)

Author profile (Goodreads)
High gapGoodreads is where serious readers check an author before buying. Goggins's profile shows 401,194 ratings across 19 works and 6,997 followers. Adriene's shows 74 ratings and 9 followers.
